St. Faustus

created - c.1702-1703 Cioli committed to make the statue
in November 1702 and finished in June 1703.
Sculptor
- Giovanbattista Cioli He received 80 scudi for the work.
Very little is known of Cioli who perhaps belonged to a family
of Tuscan sculptors.
Height
- 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine Faustus is represented in
a brestplate and holding the palm of martyrdom.
St
Faustus is listed in the old Roman Martyrology as a soldier
martyred at Milan in the reign of Commodus. He was one
of several names
removed in the Roman Martyrology 2001 edition, because of a
lack of historical background.
